About Contacting the Congress

This site originally started as a Microsoft Word for Macintosh (version 3!) document put together by Juan Cabanela with phone numbers, fax numbers, and email addresses (all 20 of them) for the 103rd Congress. This file was placed online at a shareware repository called INFO-MAC in August of 1994. This document was updated for the 104th Congress in January of 1995. After asking permission to do so, Hemang Patel (who was a UC Davis at that time) converted this Microsoft Word document into a WWW site, placing a copy online on March 12, 1995. Since that time, I have maintained this site, adding features such as automated building of pages from the database via CGIs, searching for Congressional Districts by ZIP Code, and full Committee and Subcommittee information.

In November of 2009, I moved the site to its own server to allow me to make additional changes to the site, such as caching files for management of heavy loads, something not possible on my old server.  I hope to migrate the site to a more robust platform over the next year or so, allowing me to keep up with the heavy usage by people upset at their CongressCritters.

One of the new features was the ability to add a blog to the site.  I transferred all my old manual postings to this blog on December 22, 2009 and I made it the only repository of the history of the website on January 2, 2011.

  1. one problem that needs adressing is the price of gas.dont give any more of my tax money to big oil companys…alturnitive fuels to compete wih oil. believe me,tecnology is out there for fuel made from methane gas made from feces ,hydrogen, used cooking oil, just to name a few.good old fashon compotetion wil result in lower prices but congress will have to get out of bed with big oil . big oil finances mainlyrepublicians elections and democrates to a smaller degree, election bids and in turn will not say any thing about alternitive fuels ,dont cut any social programs, annd make the rich pay thier fair share , dont try to police the world! we voted you people in,and we can damn sure vote you out!

  2. We Don’t need a debt limit increase we need a spending cut
If congress has some plan that no one in public can figure out, that assumes we must increases spending temporarily.
Than you should vote for the boehner plan with one added fix so you would not have to weary about doing this again in an election year. Specify that the congress will not entertain further increases in the future.

  3. Well, I know as one of the muddled masses that this note will probably fall on deft ears. However, the purposed “Job Bill” is at least a stab in the right direction – probably should be passed ASAP. After all, nothing else is really being done.

As to those in rhe Congress, ’we the people’ are truly tired of the schoolyard pissing contest that rules these days. Political Dominance vs. the needs of the Country‘s people. No guess which holds the only interest of OUR REPRESENTATIVES (…oxymoron if ever there was a term)!!! Too bad we don’t have a “pay for performance” mode in Washington. Some of our shortfalls could be met with all the back monies they would owe back to the Country. Issues like: Have we ever balanced the 2010 Budget yet, should the Seniors who paid a lifetime of SS dues now be held hostage, how can a country wage a costly ten year war in areas that could really care about us (…this is the biggest hole in our bucket), can a five week break in sessions be justified during a time of urgent needs, must campaigning become the primary mind set at this time, etc.

Consider: We’ve rich companies receiving special incentives & some even get tax dollar funding. There’s a large amount of outstanding business back taxes ($750,000) owed. There’s many that can afford fair share taxes are getting “favored” reductions or even manage to get excused from paying. Maybe these would be a better places to start fair Government managing???

I worked fifty years – paid taxes & SS monies during all that time. As Viet Nam Vet my service dues were also met. Now is when I should be able to enjoy life & depend on our Country for a bit of a return on my investments. Don’t misunderstand. I’m a proud of American – but, embarrassed as a citizen seeing how our Government is presently malfunctioning. Our System is broken. What’s next in our future??? Something like uprisings & revolts from workers or students. I pray not.

  4. I took a look at most of 16 H.R. Bills the house speaker said they had passed and were waiting for the senate to act on to create jobs. This is not job creation Bills, lets call it, Cut,Gut and Destroy the E.P.A.. Republicans say they are worried about debt for our kids and grand kids, what about clean air to breath and safe water to drink for them? Most of the debt we have now is from tax cuts mostly for the rich,Iraq and Afghanistan Wars,Medicare Part D ,TARP and 2009 Stimulus.Rep. Paul C. Broun calls it the failed stimulus but I think $640 plus million spent in GA. 10Th congressional has created jobs and helped a lot or Mr. Brouns voters.Congress never stop voting on T.A.R.P. until the fat cats on Wall St. got bailed out, now its time to stop stimulus hypocrisy and help Main St..

  5. The H.R. 1179, the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act should not be allowed. If the US Government continues to give privileges to certain groups, groups who bleed the tax payers of money through Medicaid and Medicare and government contracts and who do not have to pay taxes, this will open a pandora’s box to flood the courts with law suits demanding equal rights claiming they too are a religious organization. So what if they sell toilet brushes, they do it in the name of God.
A business is a business, period. No business is supposed to be favored by government and no religion is supposed to be favored by government.
The people of this country have had enough of political shenanigans and special favors. We are created equal in the eyes of the Constitution and that means businesses as well.
